Carl “Chico” Montefusco 72, of Springfield MA, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2026, after a long battle with multiple illnesses, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 18, 1954, Chico lived life entirely on his own terms - unconventional, free-thinking, outspoken, and impossible to forget.
As a drummer for most of his life, music was the center of who he was. Chico had a distinct personality, he never outgrew his boyish and playfully not for all audiences sense of humor and never held back what was on his mind. He loved fiercely and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Laurie (Hopkins) Montefusco; His daughters, Cara (Montefusco) Mock and her husband Kevin Mock, and Yaicha Montefusco; His grandchildren, Cullin Moore, Ailey Moore, and Kevin “Biggs” Mock Jr; and his great-granddaughter Maeve Baez. He is also survived by his sister, Debra (Montefusco) Cass and her husband Andrew Cass of Esperance, NY, along with several nieces and nephews, and his BFF John Govoni. Chico also leaves behind his faithful German Shepard, Chakotay.
In true Chico fashion, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, all are invited to celebrate his life the way he would have wanted- relaxed, loud, full of music, food, laughter, and good company. Formal attire is discouraged; bandanas, concert shirts, and sweatpants are welcome. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 19, 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Springfield Lodge of Elks #61 pavilion 440 Tiffany st. Spfld, MA 01108.
